Summary

Dr Christine Barrett is an Honorary Lecturer in the Division of Global Public Health, Department of Health Sciences. Dr Barrett’s career was in clinical development in the field of immuno-inflammation at GlaxoSmithKline, culminating as a Clinical Development Director. A secondment to Save the Children as an immunisation advisor, with a project in Nigeria, ignited her passion for understanding the healthcare issues in Lower and Middle Income Countries. This was confirmed after her retirement by volunteering at a rural health clinic in The Gambia.

Qualifications

Dr Barrett graduated from University of New South Wales with a double major in Microbiology and Biochemistry, and was awarded a University Medal. She went on to complete a PhD in Renal Immunology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (now Imperial College). Following her career in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr Barrett undertook a MSc Public Health and Health Promotion at Brunel, being awarded the degree with Distinction.
