Visa Checks at Registration

Please see below for information about the visa documentation you will need to register (enrol) at Brunel University of London.

In order to register at Brunel, all students must provide evidence that they have valid immigration permission to study in the UK. This can be done by presenting your visa documentation or verifying your immigration status.
This may be a vignette in your passport and an electronic visa (eVisa). However, if you have a pending immigration application at the point of registration, you should supply this evidence. This may include letters or emails you have received from the Home Office and/or a copy of your application form.

Please see the sections below for more specific information about registering as a Student visa or othert types of visa.

Please note that although your registration may be done remotely using an online system, you must be physically in the UK with a valid visa in order to register for your course before the given deadline. Further details about how to complete your registration will be sent to you a few weeks before your course starts (subject to you holding an unconditional offer of a place).

General Registration Guidance

eVision Registration Task

In order to register, you will first need to complete an online registration task via the eVision portal. Instructions on how to do this will be provided once you have an unconditional offer. You will be asked to submit your visa documentation as part of this task, so may not be able to complete it until you have this.

Deposit payment

To register you’ll need to pay your first tuition fee instalment. The first instalment is 50% of the total fee for the first year of your course, minus your deposit payment. You’ll be able to find out the amount you need to pay by going to ‘My Checklist’ on eVision. If you’ve not already made this payment, the quickest and easiest way to do this is through Flywire, our online payment facility, or you can review other options here

If you require a student visa

If you’re waiting for your visa documents, please complete the remaining sections of your eVision registration task. You can upload your documents later once you have them.

If you have applied for your student visa overseas and have only received the entry clearance visa (the vignette in your passport), please upload that document to the ‘My Student Entry Visa’ section on eVision and complete the rest of the task. If you have entered the UK, please complete the ‘date of entry’ section as required, otherwise leave it blank.

If you have applied to extend your student visa from within the UK, please upload a copy of the application form to the ‘My Visa’ section and complete the rest of the eVision task.

If you’re unable to register by the registration deadline

If you don’t believe you will arrive in the UK or complete your registration by the above deadline please contact us at registration@brunel.ac.uk with your Brunel ID, the course you are registering for, the date you will arrive and your reason for late registration. The Registration Team will discuss this with our ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Tutors and respond with an outcome.

If your plans have changed and you no longer expect to join us at Brunel this year, please contact the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Office (mailto:admissions@brunel.ac.uk) to withdraw your application.

Registering as a national of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.

You will need to demonstrate that you have either obtained a Student visa, or hold another type of UK visa/immigration status (see below). Please visit our website for further details if you need to make a Student visa application.

If you have pre-settled or settled status under the , we will need to check this status at registration using an online service with the UK Home Office. In order to do this, we will need you to provide a 'Share Code' to check your immigration status online. You will be asked for this as part of the registration process. Please visit the  for further details of how to do this. Please also note that the deadline to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme was 30 June 2021.

Nationals of the Republic of Ireland will not need to apply for any form of immigration permission to enter or study in the UK.

Registering with a Student visa

In order to register at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ with a Student visa, you must present the following documents:

1. A valid Student visa which covers the whole duration of the course

AND which shows ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½'s Sponsor Licence Number (SLN) - 0BT931EY6;

AND which was issued for the course you are registering on using the appropriate Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).

The visa may be a paper vignette in your passport called Permission to Enter and an eVisa. We will need to check this status at registration using an online service with the UK Home Office. In order to do this, we will need you to provide a 'Share Code' to check your Student eVisa online. You will be asked for this as part of the registration process. Please visit the  for further details of how to do this.

2. If you have recently submitted an online Student visa application to extend your stay in the UK, but have not yet received the decision, you must supply a copy of your application form in order to register. This can be downloaded from your online UKVI account once the application is submitted.

Please be aware that if you register with a pending Student permission to stay application, you will be registering at your own risk. Should the visa application subsequently be refused, you may have to be de-registered and may lose fees already paid to the University. We will ask you to agree to these terms when you register. Once you receive your new visa, or other UKVI decision, you must show it to the University as soon as possible.

If you already have a Student visa that was issued to study at another institution, or which does not cover the whole duration on your course at Brunel University, you will need to apply for a new Student visa using a CAS we have issued. Please also note that you will need to apply for a new Student visa if you move between courses at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ (for example, if you complete an undergraduate degree and then want to study a postgraduate degree). You will not be allowed to register with a Student visa that was issued either to study at another institution or for a previous course at Brunel University.

Student visas - evidence of entering the UK

If you made your Student visa application outside of the UK (permission to enter), please keep any documentary evidence that shows the date on which you entered the UK. This may include an ink stamp that is put on your Student visa at the UK border, or boarding passes and/or flight tickets. You will be asked to provide this as part of your registration as we need to check that you entered the UK while your Student visa is valid. Please ensure that you only enter the UK within the validity period of your Student visa and we advise you not to travel to the UK beforehand.

Registering with another type of visa

It may be possible to register at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ with another type of visa other than Student visa, provided that this does not prohibit study in the UK. This would typically include (but not restricted to) the following types of visa/immigration status:

  •  A visa which is in a category outside the Points Based System (PBS), such as a spouse or diplomatic visa
  •  A visa issued for another category of the PBS such as Skilled Work.
  • A dependant visa
  • Indefinite Leave to Remain
  • Refugee status or asylum application
  • EU settled or pre-settled status

If you wish to enrol on a non-Student visa that is not listed above, we recommend that you contact the Compliance Team to confirm that your visa is suitable for registration at the University before you arrive. Please note that if you register with a visa that is sponsored by an employer i.e. Skilled Work, it remains your responsibility to abide by the conditions of your visa.

You will not be allowed to register with a visa that does not permit full-time study in the UK. Ideally, your visa should cover the duration of your course. If not, you may still be allowed to register. However, you need to be aware that your continued enrolment may depend on you being able to extend this visa or successfully switch into another immigration category. If this applies, you will be asked to consent to these terms at registration to make sure that you are aware of this.

Visas that do not permit registration

Brunel University's policy is that we do not accept the following types of visa for registration:

  • A Student visa which was not issued for the course you wish to register for using the appropriate CAS
  • A Student visa that was issued to study at another institution (typically with the Sponsor Licence Number of another institution displayed)
  • A Standard Visitor Visa (including family/business/academic visitors) – unless the course is less than six months long. This visa type does not permit study on a full-time course longer than six months
  • A Short-term Study visa (except for an English language course of between six and eleven months)
  • Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) or Start-up visas
  • Graduate (post-study work) visas - if you currently have a Graduate visa you must switch to a Student visa before you can register
