ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½’s graduates earn salaries that are £2,900 more than the average across the university sector, according to new government figures that look into what students go on to do in the workplace.

The Longitudinal Employment Outcomes dataset – known as LEO, and published by the government’s Department for Education – provides an anonymised annual snapshot of the labour market for students who graduated 1, 3 and 5 years earlier and who work in the UK.

The latest dataset, out last month, shows that the median salary for Brunel graduates 3 years on – the ‘middle number’ average – was £28,800 when looked at across all subjects studied, which is 11% more than the sector average of £25,900.

Zooming in on the specific subjects studied by students, there are notable successes. For example, 3 years after getting their degrees, the earnings of Brunel graduates who studied Creative Arts & Design are ranked 1st in the country out of the 93 universities offering degrees in this subject area.

The dataset also gives figures for the proportion of graduates who are economically or educationally active: in employment, further study or both. For this employment outcomes percentage, Brunel is ranked 1st in London for those who graduated 3 years earlier in Creative Arts & Design, Economics, Education and Politics. The figure is highest for Brunel Economics graduates, with 95.1% in employment, further study or both.

Jonathan Bainbridge, Director of Brunel’s Professional Development Centre, welcomed the news. “At Brunel, we have a strong relationship with business and industry. For as long as we’ve been a university, we’ve given our students a rich experience of real-world employment and flexible career opportunities, such as through our sandwich degrees and work placements.

“We support our students’ professional development from the moment they arrive to beyond graduation, whether they’re budding entrepreneurs, or focused on a profession, or want to study beyond the degree level. Or, indeed, if they just need time to explore their options.

“The government’s LEO figures are external validation of the opportunities and support we provide and demonstrate just how employable Brunel graduates are, thanks to all the hard work they put in and the rich experiences they have.”
