ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½'s research has been rated highly by the , the global league table that measures the social and environmental impact of universities.
The annual rankings measure how well a research institution is progressing towards delivering on each of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These SDGs are a 'universal call to action' adopted by member states in 2015 to improve health and education, reduce inequality, spur economic growth, and tackle climate change and the destruction of the environment.
Brunel appears in the 101–200 band out of 1,963 universities worldwide, meaning that, in broad terms, it's in the top 5–10%.
When the THE Impact Rankings first launched in 2019, Brunel came in the top 10%, placing 40th out of 450 universities. The rankings have become ever more popular across the global higher education sector since then, with more than four times as many universities seeking to demonstrate their commitment to delivering the SDGs by submitting evidence. Despite this rapid expansion, Brunel has consistently ranked among the world's most impactful research institutions.
The THE combines each university's three highest-scoring SDGs with a score for its overall . So Brunel's high ranking demonstrates its efforts in fostering robust international partnerships and its cooperation for achieving all SDGs, together with its strengths in:
- SDG 10: (15th in the world and 6th in the UK, a ranking that has remained consistently high)
- SDG 14: (76th in the world)
- SDG 15: (=47th in the world)
