Brunel Law School's partnership with legal firm Macfarlanes won Best Social Mobility Strategy at the 2023 targetjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards.
The Macfarlanes training scholarship is a unique programme developed within the firm and is designed to tackle any socio-economic barriers that discourage talented students from joining the legal profession.
Launched in October last year, the scholarship sees the firm support three Brunel law students annually – known as Macfarlanes training scholars – through a fully-funded programme from the first year of their law degree onwards. The expectation is that the scholars will become trainees and then associates with the firm.
Head of Brunel Law School Prof Arad Reisberg said: “The Macfarlanes’ training scholarship partnership has had a transformative impact on students in Brunel Law School.”
“In particular, building on the School’s existing strengths in preparing a highly diverse strongly motivated student body for careers in the legal profession, the generosity of Macfarlanes’ means that Brunel Law students will now be able to be even more successful.”
“In addition, since the introduction of the new partnership, I am witnessing the ‘Macfarlanes training scholarship impact', that is being approached by other law firms and external organisations to work with us on similar or complementing schemes.”
