Professor John M.T. Balmer, Professor of Corporate Marketing of Brunel Business School, has been identified as amongst the world’s top 2% most influential academic researchers in a recently published study by Stanford University/Elsevier. Professor Balmer has earnt this elite ranking for his career-long impact in the field of Corporate Marketing.

The top 2% list is based on a database of more than 100,000 of the world’s top-scholars and scientists and which takes account of citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index and more. Notably, Professor Balmer also had the most downloaded articles and over 30,000 of citations to-date, making one of the top citations especially within marketing, branding and corporate branding fields.

Professor Balmer has been instrumental to our research group at Brunel Business School (Marketing and Corporate Brand Management - MCBM, formerly known as CREAM), which he led between 2010-2020 as the Director/Head of the Marketing and Corporate Brand Research Group. Before joining Brunel University in 2007, he held academic appointments at Strathclyde University and Bradford University.

Commenting on the news, Professor Balmer reflected: “This news comes as quite a surprise. Certainly, it is rather humbling, as well as a particular honour, to be counted among the world’s top 2% of researchers. I hope this news will also spotlight the excellent work being undertaken by faculty colleagues in the marketing and corporate brand research group.”

When someone seeks insights into corporate brands, corporate identity, corporate marketing, “heritage brands” and monarchies as corporate brands, Professor Balmer is a ‘premier authority’ in the intellectual firmament, comments former colleague Professor Suraksha Gupta of Newcastle University. ‘His professorial titles constitute the first of their kind in relation to corporate identity and corporate branding (at Bradford School of Management) and corporate marketing (at Brunel Business School)’ said Professor Gupta.

Huge congratulation, John, on the well-deserved recognition!
